Homicide Investigation Underway After Deadly Shooting in Gaslamp

SDPD says the victim, a 46-year-old man, was shot inside a third-floor hallway of a bar at 701 Sixth Ave. The suspected shooter, 37-year-old Bryan Tyner of San Diego, was immediately detained by patrons and arrested for murder. Police recovered a handgun at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

SAN DIEGO — A person was shot and killed Sunday evening in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, prompting a major police response and an ongoing homicide investigation.

San Diego Police officers responded around 5:10 p.m. on August 3 to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of 6th Avenue. Officers located at least one victim suffering from gunshot wounds. That individual was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from their injuries.

As of Sunday evening, the suspect’s identity and motive remain unknown. SDPD has not said whether anyone is in custody.

The popular nightlife district has been cordoned off as homicide detectives begin their investigation. The closure is expected to last for several hours while crime scene teams process evidence.
