Fire Erupts on Roof of San Carlos Home, Quickly Contained by Fire Crews

7.15.25 San Diego, CA — A residential fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Golfcrest Drive and Sunny Brae Place, prompting a swift response from multiple fire agencies. Crews arrived just after 4 PM to find smoke and flames coming from the roof of a single-family home, directly over an area where roof repairs were reportedly in progress.

Firefighters from San Diego, Heartland, and Santee fire departments coordinated a rapid attack, gaining roof access and cutting ventilation openings to slow the spread. The flames were largely confined to the rear roof structure, which also held solar panels—though the panels themselves did not appear to be the ignition source.

The home’s interior was spared from major damage, thanks to the quick response. No injuries were reported. San Diego Fire-Rescue PIO Jason Shanley was on scene and confirmed that crews were able to limit damage to the roof and attic area.
