No Kings Day Protest Draws Large Crowd in La Mesa

[LA MESA Sat March 28, 2026, 10:00 a.m.] — More than 1,000 people gathered in La Mesa on Saturday morning for a No Kings Day protest that moved through the downtown area without reported problems, according to field observations from the scene.

The protest centered on the 8000 block of La Mesa Boulevard, where participants first gathered in the Vons parking lot before beginning a march around 10:25 a.m. The crowd then moved east on La Mesa Boulevard toward Casa Gabriella. From there, some marchers returned using La Mesa Boulevard while others looped back on Allison Avenue. Most had returned to the Vons parking lot by about 11:30 a.m.

The crowd appeared to include a broad mix of ages, though it skewed older, with many families, children and dogs taking part. Sign messaging observed at the scene focused mainly on opposition to President Donald Trump, with comparatively less emphasis on Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

One older man at the event said he had originally supported Trump but now wanted him out of office.

Weather was sunny and warm, with temperatures reaching the high 80s, adding to the large turnout in the downtown corridor.

La Mesa Police monitored the demonstration from a command post and maintained a visible presence with officers in cars, on foot and using a drone. No issues were reported during the protest.
