[EL CAJON Thurs Feb 5, 9:04 p.m.]
A male driver was arrested for DUI Thursday night after crashing a Chevy Silverado into a metal power pole along El Cajon Boulevard.
Heartland Fire and medical crews were dispatched around 9:04 p.m. to the 700 block of El Cajon Boulevard, where they found the pickup with moderate front-end damage and leaking small amounts of oil and coolant. The truck was left undrivable.
The metal power pole did not break but was visibly bowed from the impact.
Despite airbag deployment, the driver reported no injuries. El Cajon Police evaluated the driver for DUI at the scene. He failed sobriety testing and was taken into custody.
Engine 6 and Medic 436 responded to the crash, with medical units clearing the scene shortly afterward.
Authorities are reminding drivers that Super Bowl weekend typically brings increased DUI enforcement, including checkpoints and saturation patrols across the region.
