[SPRING VALLEY, Calif., Thu Jan. 29, 5:28–5:38 p.m.] — A high-speed pursuit involving Chula Vista police ended Thursday evening with a collision and an officer-involved shooting on Tyler Street in Spring Valley.
Radio traffic indicated the incident began as a report around 5:28 p.m. of a pursuit of a suspect involved in an assault with a firearm. The suspect vehicle traveled north on Interstate 805 from Telegraph Canyon Road, continued east on State Route 54, then north on State Route 125 before exiting at Jamacha Road and heading north on Sweetwater Road. Speeds were reported between 85 and 100 mph in moderate traffic, with the suspect using the shoulder to pass vehicles.
The pursuit ended near the intersection of Tyler Street and Sweetwater Road when multiple vehicles were involved in a crash. Shots were fired near 8645 Tyler Street at approximately 5:38 p.m. The suspect, described as a man in his 30s, was struck in the right leg. A tourniquet was applied and he was taken into custody. No officers were injured.
An uninvolved driver in a black sedan was transported to a nearby hospital as a major trauma patient after striking her head and reporting neck and back pain. Scene evidence and vehicle positions indicated the shooting occurred farther east on Tyler Street near a Chula Vista police patrol car that had gone through a fence into a front yard. The investigation is ongoing.
