Motorcycle Collides With BMW at La Mesa Intersection

[LA MESA, Calif. — Tues Jan. 20, 7:45 p.m.]
A motorcycle rider was injured Tuesday night after colliding with a black BMW at an intersection near the State Route 125 ramps in La Mesa, prompting a temporary freeway off-ramp closure.

According to radio traffic and information from the scene, the BMW was exiting northbound SR-125 onto Amaya Drive when the driver entered the intersection on a green light. At the same time, a motorcycle traveling westbound on Amaya Drive entered the intersection and struck the BMW’s left front corner.

The impact threw the rider over the hood of the car and approximately 25 to 30 feet from the point of collision, where the rider came to rest near the southbound SR-125 on-ramp. Firefighters and paramedics treated the rider at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

California Highway Patrol units assisted with traffic control, including shutting down the Fletcher Parkway off-ramp from northbound SR-125 for roughly half an hour. Because the collision occurred on the city street portion of Amaya Drive, the investigation is being handled by the La Mesa Police Department.
