Pedestrian Killed on I-8 Westbound in El Cajon

[EL CAJON, Fri Jan 17, 1:18 a.m.]
A person walking on Interstate 8 westbound was struck and killed early Friday morning near the Mollison Avenue on-ramp in El Cajon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP logs show the collision was reported shortly after 1:18 a.m. The driver involved stopped immediately and attempted to warn approaching motorists by waving them off until officers arrived. The vehicle sustained moderate damage to the right front.

CHP officers conducted a DUI investigation at the scene, including a breathalyzer test, and ruled out intoxication as a factor. The driver was later escorted off the freeway as the investigation continued.

The pedestrian did not appear to be associated with a disabled vehicle or traffic collision, and their identity has not been released. The area was described as very dark, and traffic was intermittently stopped or slowed while officers conducted lane breaks and coordinated the response.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner was notified. Westbound lanes and the Mollison Avenue on-ramp were gradually reopened after several hours.
