[SAN DIEGO (Downtown) Fri Jan 17, 12:45 a.m.]
A police pursuit that began with reckless minibike riding in downtown San Diego ended early Friday morning at a crowded Mission Valley fast-food parking lot, where officers took a rider into custody.
According to police radio traffic, officers initially attempted to stop a group of minibike riders who were performing stunts and riding dangerously through downtown streets. Several riders complied, but one rider fled, prompting a pursuit with assistance from a police helicopter.
The pursuit moved between surface streets and freeways, including SR-94, Interstate 805, and Interstate 15. Speeds were reported to be high at the outset but gradually decreased as the pursuit continued.
After exiting the freeway system near Friars Road, the rider entered an In-N-Out Burger parking lot, where he reportedly circled several times before stopping. Officers took the rider into custody amid a crowd of late-night patrons.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit, and police did not immediately release additional details about potential charges.
