A male motorcyclist in his mid-20s was seriously injured Tuesday night in a collision with a Toyota RAV4 at the intersection of Mira Mesa Boulevard and Black Mountain Road, according to police and fire officials.
A traffic investigator at the scene said the RAV4 was traveling north on Black Mountain Road and making a right turn when it was struck from behind by a motorcycle traveling east on Mira Mesa Boulevard. Investigators have not yet determined which traffic signals were green at the time of the crash.
Fire crews arrived within minutes and found the rider with serious injuries, including significant trauma to his legs. The patient was unable to recall the collision.
The rider was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for trauma care. San Diego police classified the incident as a serious injury accident and continued to investigate late into the evening.
