Apparent Suicide Draws Large Police Response in Little Italy

A woman died Thursday night after an apparent suicide outside a busy bar in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood, according to San Diego police.

Officers were dispatched shortly before 9 p.m. to the 500 block of West Date Street, near India Street, following reports of a suicide or suicide attempt. The incident occurred outside the Princess Pub & Grill, a popular venue in the area.

Police said the woman was involved in an argument outside the business prior to the shooting. According to a witness at the scene, the woman briefly fired a handgun into the air before fatally shooting herself. The witness asked not to be identified and declined to be on video.

In a statement posted to social media, San Diego police said the death appears to be a suicide and stressed there was no active threat to the public. Officers asked the community to avoid the area while investigators worked at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
