Pedestrian Struck After Crossing Against Red in Mission Valley

[SAN DIEGO (Mission Valley East) Fri Dec 12, 11:46 p.m.] — A pedestrian suffered serious injuries late Friday night after police say he crossed against a red light and was struck by a car moving through a green light at a busy Mission Valley intersection.

According to the San Diego Police Department’s Watch Commander, the crash happened at Camino De La Reina and Qualcomm Way just before midnight. Investigators say a 41-year-old man driving a 2007 Honda Accord was heading westbound in the #1 lane when a 40-year-old man stepped into the west crosswalk despite having a red signal.

The pedestrian was hit within the intersection and was treated for an open fracture to his left leg as well as facial wounds and abrasions. Police said the injuries are serious but not life-threatening. Alcohol was not involved.

SDPD’s Traffic Division responded to the scene and is conducting the collision investigation.
