A 60-year-old man died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing mid-block on India Street in Hillcrest, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police said the man was crossing northbound near Vine Street when a silver or gray sedan, also traveling north, struck him just before midnight. The driver continued northbound and fled the scene.
First responders transported the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. SDPD Traffic Division is handling the investigation and is still searching for the suspect vehicle and driver.
Although SDPD did not confirm any vehicle description at the scene, CHP’s public CAD — opened after SDPD requested help closing the I-5 Washington Street offramp — briefly referenced a silver 2023 Honda Accord with California plate 9HJE353. SDPD’s official release did not include that information, and it’s unclear whether it remains relevant to the investigation.
CHP coordinated with Caltrans for a full closure of the northbound offramp to assist with traffic control while SDPD processed the scene for several hours.
No additional details about the suspect have been released.
