DUI Driver Sends Crystal Pier Gate Flying

SAN DIEGO (Pacific Beach) — A young woman was arrested early Saturday after crashing a blue sedan into the vehicle gate at the foot of Garnet Avenue leading onto Crystal Pier, authorities said. The pier’s access gate was closed for the night.

The impact left heavy front-end damage and white paint transfer on the sedan’s hood and bumper. The steel gate—about 15 feet wide and 6 feet tall—was launched roughly 100 feet from its mount, striking a parked car and shattering the vehicle’s rear hatch and glass. No injuries were reported.

San Diego police administered field sobriety and breath tests at the scene. The driver failed the tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
