SAN DIEGO (University City) — A double rollover crash on southbound Interstate 805 near the State Route 52 connector left several people injured early Sunday morning as thick fog blanketed the freeway.
California Highway Patrol logs show the crash was reported at 12:16 a.m. and involved at least two vehicles — a dark Chevy Equinox and a silver Mazda RX-8 — that spun out and rolled into the embankment. Witnesses reported one person lying outside a vehicle before emergency crews arrived.
San Diego Fire-Rescue engines 27 and 50 and Falck ambulances M41, M44 and M50 responded, treating multiple patients and transporting at least three to area hospitals.
CHP units closed the right lanes for cleanup and towing operations. The crash was upgraded to a major-injury classification about 2:40 a.m. The cause remains under investigation, though visibility was limited to a few hundred feet due to fog at the time.
