Shooting leaves one dead near OB Pier

SAN DIEGO (Ocean Beach) —
Police are investigating a deadly shooting near the Ocean Beach Pier that left a man dead just after midnight Saturday.

Lt. Lou Maggi of the San Diego Police Homicide Unit said officers were called at 12:23 a.m. to the 5000 block of Niagara Avenue for reports of gunfire. Responding officers found a 35-year-old Hispanic male outside an apartment building at 5116 Narragansett Avenue; he died at the scene.

The pier area was cordoned off for several blocks while detectives interviewed witnesses and processed evidence. Several residents told police they heard shouting and then a series of shots.

Investigators are looking for a group of two men and two women who ran from the area shortly after the shooting. They may have driven off in a light-colored sedan and a blue SUV.
