SAN DIEGO (Kearny Mesa) — A four-hour SWAT standoff at the Courtyard by Marriott on Spectrum Center Boulevard ended peacefully early Friday after a man accused of pointing a rifle at hotel staff surrendered to San Diego police.
Lt. Travis Easter said the incident began around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when an intoxicated guest got into an argument with hotel employees and allegedly produced a rifle-type weapon. The staff escaped unharmed and called 911.
Police sealed off the area and brought in SWAT and crisis negotiators to speak with the suspect, who remained inside his room for several hours. According to Officer J. Perales at the department’s Watch Commander’s Office, the man surrendered shortly after 1am without incident or injury.
No shots were fired and no one was hurt during the standoff. The hotel was briefly locked down as a precaution while officers secured the scene. The suspect’s name and charges have not yet been released.
