San Diego — Early Sunday morning, San Diego Police took a motorcyclist into custody after a high-speed pursuit that started downtown and ended in the Encanto area.
Officers first spotted the motorcycle around 1:39 a.m. near 10th and B Street, where the rider was seen running red lights without a license plate. When police attempted a traffic stop, the rider took off eastbound on State Route 94.
ABLE, the department’s air support unit, followed from above as the motorcyclist took the Federal Boulevard exit and continued into a residential area near the 6300 block of Radio Drive. Moments later, the rider crashed and abandoned the bike, running through backyards and up a slope before officers caught up to him.
He was taken into custody without further incident and checked by medics for exhaustion. No other injuries were reported. Police have not yet released his name or the specific charges he faces.
