San Diego — The victim in Monday’s fatal shooting at the Linda Vista Recreation Center has been identified as Enrique Nunez, 40, according to San Diego Police.
Officers responded at 12:45 a.m. to reports of gunfire near 7064 Levant St. and found Nunez in the park suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers initiated life-saving measures until San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics arrived. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
SDPD Homicide detectives are investigating. Preliminary information indicates a heavy-set Hispanic male adult approached Nunez in the park and shot him. The motive remains unknown.

San Diego — A homicide investigation is underway at Linda Vista Park after a victim connected to the incident was transported from the scene early Monday morning, according to a San Diego Police lieutenant on site.
Officers from SDPD’s Western Division were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. to the park at 7097 Levant St. When crews arrived, they secured the area and held the scene for homicide detectives. A lieutenant told SD Slackers that detectives were en route and that the victim was not on scene, having been transported earlier. No additional details were immediately available, including the victim’s condition, any suspect description, or the circumstances leading up to the crime.
Police kept the park area taped off to preserve evidence while investigators worked to determine what happened. SDPD is expected to release more information after the initial round of interviews and evidence collection.
