San Diego, Oct 5th 2025 – A messy two-car crash early Sunday morning sent water, plastic debris, and auto parts flying across the I-15 south transition near I-8 in Mission Valley.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Kia Soul slammed into a set of yellow water-filled crash barrels around 12:52 AM. The barriers exploded, flooding several lanes. Moments later, a pickup truck collided with the wrecked Kia, briefly blocking all lanes of traffic.
Officers reported that both drivers showed signs of alcohol impairment. One man was treated for minor injuries and transported by ambulance, while the second declined medical care. An off-duty EMT reportedly prevented one of the men from wandering into lanes.
Caltrans and tow crews cleared gallons of standing water and shattered barrier pieces before reopening the freeway around 1:40 AM.
