Midday shooting near Gompers; suspect flees on scooter

San Diego police are investigating a midday shooting that unfolded just outside the Gompers campus at 47th Street and Hilltop Drive on Tuesday. Lt. Kellington said the 12:25 p.m. call involved an altercation between two people; one man was shot in the pelvic region. His injuries are considered non–life-threatening.

The suspect—described as a black male in his 30s or 40s—fled on a scooter before officers arrived. Responding SDPD units rendered aid to the victim and immediately coordinated with nearby schools. Chollas, Horton, and other campuses enacted brief lockdowns out of caution. Officers and school staff swept the buildings and grounds, and all lockdowns were lifted. Police emphasized the incident did not occur on school property and was not related to the schools.

Detectives closed 47th Street for a couple of hours to process evidence. No arrests had been announced as of publication.
