A pre-dawn collision in Granite Hills left a blue Honda CR-V upside down and a driver in handcuffs on suspicion of DUI early Saturday. Dispatch time was 2:07 a.m. to 1784 Granite Hills Drive at Lexington Avenue in El Cajon.
Witnesses told SD Slackers the Honda was heading north at a high rate of speed before a near head-on impact with a black sedan. The force flipped the Honda, which slid several hundred feet down the road on it’s roof, and across the intersection before coming to a rest. The driver was initially trapped but self-extricated with assistance; San Miguel Fire said it wasn’t a full technical rescue. The female driver was ambulatory and evaluated by ALS medics.
CHP conducted a roadside DUI investigation and arrested the female driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. During the arrest, friends and family of the other driver—who had been watching the DUI test—grew angry and heckled the Honda driver as she was placed in the back of a CHP patrol car. Firefighters stepped in briefly to calm the situation. No life-threatening injuries were reported, and the intersection had temporary closures during the response.
