Gear Collapse on Takeoff Halts San Diego Airport; Departures Resume Around 10 PM

9.17.25 San Diego — A Citation-class business jet, reported as tail TCN769, experienced a landing-gear collapse during its takeoff roll at San Diego International Airport around 5:45 PM Wednesday. Crews reported debris on the runway and began planning a crane lift after draining fuel from the aircraft.

Because SAN operates with a single runway, the incident immediately affected the whole airport: arrivals were diverted and departures delayed or canceled while the runway was blocked. By about 10:00 PM, the airport began allowing departures, with lingering delays expected as airlines reset their evening schedules.

There were no injuries heard over the radio traffic we monitored, but that has not been officially confirmed. We’re watching for updates on the removal timeline, runway inspection results, and any subsequent notifications to regulators.
