Midway/Point Loma — Saturday 9/13, 11:44 pm. A car left the Rosecrans Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 and overturned into the embankment triangle between I-5 and the I-8 ramps, coming to rest upside down, according to dispatch and medical radio traffic.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews descended the embankment from the ramp to reach a man in his 30s, who told med crews he’d been hit from behind and that the car rolled multiple times. He was ambulatory at the scene; He was transported to UCSD Medical Center. CHP logged the collision as 11-81 (minor injury).
The crash knocked down a Caltrans light pole, prompting concerns about downed wires. SDG&E checked the location and advised the pole belonged to Caltrans, which sent maintenance crews to secure wiring and clear debris. Ramp and transition closures were in place during the response. By about 3:30 am Sunday, crews reported the wires secured and debris cleared.
CHP is investigating the circumstances of the rollover, including the driver’s claim of being rear-ended.
