Caught on Camera: Mid-City Pursuit, Crash

City Heights — Saturday 9/13, 11:30 pm
A red BMW first spotted by SDPD’s ABLE helicopter traveling more than 100 mph on I-15 exited into the Mid-City grid and began weaving through surface streets below University Avenue, at times slowing to a crawl. Patrol units followed with ABLE overhead as the driver looped south toward Thorn Street and back.

Caught on camera: Surveillance footage obtained by SD Slackers captures part of the chase in the Mid-City corridor shortly before the crash. The incident ended when the BMW, heading north on 42nd Street, attempted a left turn onto Dwight Street and collided. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance under police escort.

At least two parked vehicles were hit during the incident; a third may have minor damage. No bystander injuries were immediately reported. SDPD is investigating the collision and the initial failure-to-yield. Potential contributing factors—including impairment—were not established as of press time.

Agencies on scene: SDPD Mid-City units and ABLE; San Diego Fire-Rescue and medics for patient care and scene safety.
