Imperial Beach Fight Turns Deadly

One man killed, another injured outside Bullpen Tavern

Imperial Beach — A violent altercation outside a bar in Imperial Beach left one man dead early Saturday morning, prompting a homicide investigation.

Deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation were called to a disturbance in the 600 block of Seventh Street around 1:25 AM. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries. Deputies began CPR until paramedics took over, but despite their efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another person involved in the fight was reportedly punched, kicked, and knocked unconscious before being transported to a hospital.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says homicide detectives are now interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. The victim’s identity is being withheld until family can be notified.

“At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement, adding that the incident appears to be isolated and poses no danger to the community.
