La Mesa DUI Hit-and-Run

La Mesa — Thursday 9/4, ~2:00 a.m.
A hit-and-run on the 8800 block of Dallas Street launched a parked car onto the sidewalk and into a retaining wall early Thursday, according to initial on-scene information. Officers later found a black Ford Mustang about four blocks away, parked and locked, with heavy front-end damage consistent with the crash.

At first, police had no confirmed driver. During the neighborhood canvas, an SD Slackers journalist at the scene heard a cell phone ringing in the darkness roughly 50 feet away and flagged an officer. The officer’s flashlight revealed two people standing about half a block away; they turned and began to walk off. The officer signaled colleagues, who drove over and contacted the pair. Investigators say the woman admitted she had been driving the Mustang and admitted she was drunk. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run. No injuries were reported at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
