Driver Flees After Rollover on SR-67 in Lakeside

Lakeside — A rollover crash on State Route 67 sent a young driver to the hospital early Thursday morning after deputies found him hiding nearby.

The incident happened around 1:00 a.m. on the northbound side of SR-67 just past Riverford Road. According to dispatch logs, a Toyota Tundra pickup left the roadway, rolled down an embankment, and came to rest on its side. Witnesses reported the truck may have flipped end-over-end before stopping.

The driver, a man in his 20s, managed to climb out on his own and was later spotted running across a field toward Woodside Avenue. Deputies with the Lakeside Sheriff’s Station located him at an apartment complex on Woodside, where medics were called.

He was awake, in pain, but able to talk. On scene, the driver told authorities another vehicle had sideswiped him on the freeway, but investigators noted alcohol may have played a role. California Highway Patrol officers followed him to the hospital for further evaluation and DUI investigation.

No other victims were confirmed, and the incident caused only a brief traffic disruption.
