Spring Valley — August 26, 2025 (11:56 PM)
Firefighters battled a dangerous late-night blaze inside a Spring Valley storage facility, where a unit filled with electric bicycles and lithium batteries ignited, sending toxic smoke into the air.
The fire broke out at the CubeSmart self-storage complex on Jamacha Road. San Miguel Fire crews arrived just before midnight and forced entry into multiple units to keep the flames from spreading. One unit was heavily damaged, with firefighters reporting it contained between 50 and 60 e-bikes as well as a large box of lithium batteries.
Because lithium batteries can emit poisonous gases when burning, Hazmat specialists were called to the scene. Their focus was on controlling the smoke hazard and preventing environmental contamination from run-off.
The fire was contained before it could spread to other units. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
