Otay Mesa West — A serious crash on westbound SR-905 just east of the Picador/Smythe exit left one person apparently deceased Wednesday afternoon after a white pickup work truck slammed into a stopped MTS bus on the right shoulder. The collision was reported at 3:12 p.m.
On scene, the pickup showed severe front-end damage with partial collapse into the passenger compartment. One body lay on the ground beside the truck as a distraught family member arrived. CHP is leading the investigation; MTS Transit Security was also on scene and will file a separate report.
Preliminary CHP CAD logs indicated lanes #2 and #3 were blocked with a hard closure while crews attempted to extricate a driver and requested a tow. The log also noted a party with no pulse and unresponsive; however, CHP has not yet formally confirmed a fatality, and all details remain subject to change as investigators work the scene.
An unconfirmed anonymous tip suggested the pickup might have been involved in a prior contact or pursuit with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. SD Slackers has asked CBP for confirmation or denial and will update if we receive a response.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam video from SR-905 near Picador/Smythe around 3:05–3:15 p.m. is encouraged to contact CHP.
