Man struck and killed; may be connected to earlier domestic violence call
A man believed to be the subject of a domestic violence investigation was struck and killed while running across southbound I-805 in City Heights Friday night, according to officers on scene. CHP has not officially confirmed his identity.
The incident began around 9:30 PM, when CHP received a domestic violence call on southbound I-805 near SR-15. The victims had stopped on the freeway, but the suspect fled on foot, reportedly crossing lanes toward the Azalea Park neighborhood. SDPD joined the search, with the ABLE helicopter overhead.
Roughly an hour later, at about 10:35 PM, CHP received reports of a pedestrian collision on southbound I-805 near the Home Avenue exit. CHP says a small sedan did strike the pedestrian. They also received a separate call from someone who believed a Coca-Cola delivery truck may have been involved, but that has not been confirmed. The truck later stopped on SR-94 at Euclid Avenue.
The pedestrian, matching the earlier suspect’s description, was found down in the No. 5 lane and pronounced dead at the scene. Officers on scene believe he was the same man from the domestic violence call, but CHP has not made an official confirmation.
The freeway was fully closed for about an hour before the left three lanes reopened. The Home Avenue exit remained closed during the investigation.
