DUI Suspected After Crash Launches Parked SUV

A violent crash in La Mesa early Saturday morning may have involved impaired driving. Around 12:16 AM, a white sedan slammed into a parked black SUV on the 4600 block of 70th Street. The impact was so severe, it launched the SUV off the roadway and into nearby bushes.

The SUV’s owner, who was inside his home at the time, heard a loud bang and rushed outside to find his vehicle had been shoved forward nearly 20 feet and badly damaged.

San Diego Fire-Rescue’s Engine 10 responded to the crash and evaluated the driver of the sedan, who declined transport. La Mesa police initiated a DUI investigation. The driver began field sobriety tests but refused to continue and was detained on suspicion of DUI.
