A high-speed police pursuit that began in Chula Vista ended in a violent rollover crash on Monday evening, leaving the driver unconscious and trapped inside the wreckage. Chula Vista police began chasing a stolen vehicle around 6 PM. The suspect sped northbound on I-5 before transitioning to I-15 north. When the driver attempted to exit at Ocean View Boulevard, he approached the ramp at dangerously high speed, lost control, and launched across a grassy area. The vehicle struck an embankment and rolled back down, coming to rest upside down in an unstable position. The driver was knocked unconscious and remained inside the vehicle. Officers on scene were unable to safely reach him due to the car’s precarious position. San Diego Fire-Rescue crews stabilized the wreck and successfully extricated the driver, who was then transported by ambulance. Chula Vista PD has secured the site as a crime scene and is leading the investigation. The vehicle was confirmed stolen. It remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. CHP closed the Ocean View exit from northbound I-15 during the emergency response.
