National City, CA — April 18, 2025 A police cruiser responding to a loud party call was involved in a fiery collision Friday night in front of National City Police Headquarters, sending six people to the hospital and leading to a DUI arrest. The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of National City Boulevard and Civic Center Drive. According to early reports, a National City Police officer was driving southbound when an Audi sedan traveling northbound turned left in front of the patrol vehicle. The two cars collided violently. The Audi, which had five occupants, immediately caught fire, with several of its passengers suffering significant injuries including head trauma and broken bones. Some were trapped in their seatbelts as the flames grew. A bystander named Mikey is credited with heroic action, rushing in to cut seatbelts and pull victims to safety. Mikey also rescued the injured officer, who was reportedly dazed and suffered foot injuries. All six people involved — five from the Audi and the officer — were transported to nearby hospitals. Their current conditions have not been released. The driver of the Audi was evaluated at the scene for DUI and was subsequently arrested. The crash site, directly in front of National City Police headquarters, drew a large emergency response. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements as the investigation continues.
