El Cajon, CA — A man was shot and killed Sunday night at Wells Park in El Cajon, in a violent incident that was partially captured on security camera and followed by dramatic efforts to save his life. The shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. on April 13 in the 1100 block of Madison Avenue. Video from the scene shows first responders performing CPR on the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Surveillance footage from a nearby property may have captured the moment the gunfire erupted, though police have not confirmed whether the suspects appear in the clip. Additional videos show the aftermath at the park—crime scene tape surrounding the area as detectives began their investigation. El Cajon Police say two suspects—described as Black male adults—were seen fleeing westbound from the park. Officers launched a search that extended toward Ann Avenue and Prince Street. A witness helped provide suspect descriptions, but no arrests have been made. Later that night, newly reviewed security footage showed a black SUV possibly leaving the area, though it remains unclear whether the suspects escaped in that vehicle. El Cajon Police homicide detectives remain on the case, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
